Short academic CV
Elisa Martinelli is an associate professor at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry (since 2020), University of Pisa. She received the MSc degree in Industrial Chemistry (2004) and the PhD degree in Chemical Sciences (2008) from the University of Pisa. She spent periods doing research abroad, including Ivoclar-Vivadent AG (Liechtenstein), University of Birmingham (UK) and University of Newcastle (UK).
EM is the head of the FunPolymer lab group. Her research interests are in the design, synthesis, post-modification, formulation and characterization in bulk, in solution and at the surface of functional polymeric materials for sustainable (nano)technologies in different advanced applications, including eco-friendly protective coatings, ion exchange membranes for renewable energy, nanomedicine and drug delivery. More recently her research has also encompassed the development of innovative approaches for the chemical recycling of complex plastic wastes as well as the development of transparent wood for more sustainable buildings. Her scientific activities take also advantage of collaborations with important national and international research centers, Cornell University, Laboratoire MAPIEM, Graz University of Technology, University of Twente, Newcastle University, University of the Basque Country.
EM has also been involved in numerous national and European projects. She has been the unit leader of two regional and national projects (PRIN). She is also responsible of numerous industrial projects funded by regional and national industries.
