Stefania Giannarelli is Associate Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Pisa. She received her PhD in Analytical Chemistry in September 1994. Her research interests are related mainly to the development of hyphenated instrumentation and new analytical methodologies for organic and inorganic chemical species determination in real matrices. In particular she been involved in research programs dealing with the application of both gas and liquid chromatography techniques coupled with mass spectrometry detector for the characterisation of complex mixtures. She is also involved in a monitoring of different kind of environment: urban, lagoon, riverine, and polar (snow, ice, water, and microlayer) by investigating the presence and the concentration of a few classes of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), namely polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and organo-chlorine pesticide (OCPs) sometimes at ppt levels. She participated at XXI Oceanographic Antarctic cruise expedition (2005-06) and XXVIII Antarctic Campaign. She is the co-ordinator of national and European programs. Author of 40 publications concerning different topics of analytical chemistry as well as short notes and abstracts presented on national and international conferences. She has scientific co-operation with "J. Heyrovsky" - Czech Academy of Sciences; JRC-Institute of Transuranium Elements, Germany.
