I am an Associate Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, University of Pisa, and obtained my PhD in Chemical Sciences from the University of Pisa in 2006. My research focuses on the characterization and identification of organic materials in paint samples and archaeological polychrome objects. The aim is to reconstruct painting techniques, artistic practices, and historical technologies while investigating the chemical and physical processes involved in paint film formation, ageing, and degradation. I specialize in mass spectrometry, chromatography, and analytical pyrolysis. In close collaboration with experts in thermoanalytical techniques, atomic and molecular spectroscopies, art history, and conservation, I develop methodological approaches to analyze precious artwork samples, study material changes in paint layers, and support the development of conservation treatments through experimental studies on historical and model materials.
